Today, I was rewarded…

After being creatively stuck, and otherwise in a tarpit of winter depression and exhaustion and general awfulness for about 8 weeks, I actually got about 15 minutes of work done today. There is nothing quite like feeling that energy shift. I am grateful and exhausted. I was reminded of all the wisdom around spiritual/creative practice, that the point of any regular routine sitting, prayer, meditation, or creative practice of any kind (in my case writing) is to get oneself ready, and keep oneself ready, for when the shift comes—even if you think it never will, even if you are a huddled mass of psychic pain and confusion.

Today I was rewarded because for about 20 minutes, I made a little headway, felt things loosening up, but mostly had that undeniable and welcome sensation of, "Okay, the pain is going away and we're back to it, now."

Sam, I think this is the WHOLE point of the discipline. This is "Getting It Done." This is your book.
